    Ape Escape

Master monkey catching in Ape Escape! This classic PlayStation platformer has you using gadgets to capture primates. Enjoy vibrant 3D worlds and iconic gameplay.

    What is Ape Escape?

Ape Escape is a pioneering PlayStation platformer that revolutionized 3D gaming with its innovative control scheme. The game follows a young boy named Spike who must capture escaped monkeys using specialized gadgets after the mischievous Specter and his army of intelligent apes plunge the world into chaos. Using time-traveling mechanics across diverse environments, players must hunt down all the monkeys to restore order. The game is celebrated for being the first to require the PlayStation's dual analog sticks, creating groundbreaking gameplay that blends action, adventure, and comedy.

    Game Features

    • Innovative Dual Analog Controls - Master the first game designed specifically for two analog sticks, allowing for fluid movement and camera control • Capture and Collect - Hunt down over 200 unique monkeys across multiple time periods, each with distinct personalities • Specialized Gadgets - Utilize seven different gadgets like the Stun Club, Time Net, and RC Car to outsmart clever apes • Time Travel Adventure - Explore diverse environments from medieval castles to futuristic cities across different eras • Colorful Character Roster - Encounter memorable monkey bosses and allies with their own unique behaviors and challenges • Rewarding Progression System - Unlock new gadgets, mini-games, and bonus content as you capture more monkeys

    How to Play Ape Escape?

    1. Navigate through vibrant 3D worlds using the left analog stick or WASD keys to control Spike's movement
    2. Use the right analog stick or arrow keys to control your camera view and targeting
    3. Press the Space key to jump across platforms and obstacles
    4. Use the Z key as Action Button to interact with objects and activate gadgets
    5. Cycle through gadgets using number keys (1-7) to select the appropriate tool for each situation
    6. Press X key to use your selected gadget - whether stunning monkeys with the Stun Club or capturing them with the Time Net
    7. Read monkey cues carefully - some apes will require stealth, others require puzzle-solving, and many will try to evade you using the environment
    8. Complete level objectives by capturing all required monkeys to progress through the time periods
    9. Manage your gadget selection strategically as different monkeys require different approaches to capture

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I capture some monkeys even when I hit them with my net? Some monkeys wear helmets or carry shields that make them immune to basic capture attempts. You'll need to first stun them with your Stun Club or use other gadgets to remove their protection before you can successfully net them.

What happens if I don't capture all the monkeys in a level? You must capture the required number of monkeys to complete each level and progress through the game. While some levels allow you to continue with partial completion, capturing all monkeys unlocks bonus content, mini-games, and special rewards that enhance your overall experience.

Why does the game require two analog sticks to play effectively? Ape Escape was specifically designed as the first PlayStation game to fully utilize the dual analog controller. The left stick controls character movement while the right stick independently controls camera and aiming - this separation is crucial for tracking and capturing fast-moving monkeys in 3D space.
