    Final Fantasy Tactics

Experience epic tactical battles in Final Fantasy Tactics, the classic PlayStation strategy RPG. Master deep job systems and conquer challenging turn-based combat in this beloved fantasy adventure.

    What is Final Fantasy Tactics?

Final Fantasy Tactics is a critically acclaimed tactical role-playing game (TRPG) set within the beloved Final Fantasy universe. It transports players to the war-torn kingdom of Ivalice, where they follow the story of Ramza Beoulve, a young noble caught in a complex web of political intrigue, religious conflict, and betrayal known as the Lion War. Unlike traditional action RPGs, the game emphasizes deep strategic thinking, featuring intricate grid-based battles where positioning, character classes (Jobs), and careful planning are paramount to victory. It's renowned for its rich, mature narrative, complex character development system, and challenging tactical gameplay.

    Game Features

    • Deep Tactical Combat: Engage in challenging battles on isometric grid maps where terrain height, facing direction, and unit placement drastically impact strategy. • Robust Job System: Unlock and master over 20 unique Jobs (classes) like Knight, Black Mage, Archer, Monk, and Summoner, each with distinct abilities and skills. • Character Customization: Build your party by recruiting units and extensively customizing their Jobs, abilities, equipment, and stat growth. • Compelling Narrative: Experience a mature, politically charged story filled with complex characters, moral ambiguity, and dramatic plot twists. • Permadeath Mechanic (Optional): Units defeated in battle can be permanently lost if not revived within a set number of turns, adding significant stakes to combat. • Extensive Progression: Level up characters, learn new abilities by spending Job Points (JP), and equip learned skills across different Jobs for powerful combinations. • Random Encounters & Side Quests: Explore the world map triggering random battles for grinding and experience, and undertake numerous side quests for rewards and story depth.

How to Play Final Fantasy Tactics?

Final Fantasy Tactics is a PlayStation game primarily controlled using the PlayStation controller. Battles take place on grid-based maps where you command a group of units, taking turns to move and act.

    1. Movement & Selection: Use the D-pad (or Arrow Keys / WASD on keyboard for emulation) to navigate menus, move the cursor on the battlefield, and select units or actions.
    2. Confirm Selection: Press the X button (often mapped to Z key or Enter on keyboard) to confirm your choice, such as selecting a unit, choosing a movement path, or executing an action like Attack or Cast Spell.
    3. Cancel/Open Menu: Press the Circle button (often mapped to X key or Backspace on keyboard) to cancel an action, back out of a menu, or open the main command menu for a selected unit (where you choose Move, Attack, Ability, Item, etc.).
    4. Rotate Camera: Press the Square button (often mapped to A key or Shift on keyboard) to rotate the battlefield camera clockwise, providing different viewing angles crucial for assessing terrain and positioning.
    5. Switch View: Press the Triangle button (often mapped to S key or Tab on keyboard) to switch between different map views or unit information displays.
    6. End Turn: After moving and taking an action (or choosing to wait), a unit's turn ends. Control passes to the next unit in the turn order, displayed on the screen.
    7. Utilize Abilities: Access a unit's learned abilities (magic, skills, items) from the command menu. Success often depends on range, line of sight, facing direction, and the target's stats.
    8. Win Conditions: Achieve the battle's objective, typically defeating all enemy units or a specific target, while keeping your key units alive.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is permadeath really permanent? Yes, if a unit is knocked out (reaches 0 HP) and isn't revived by an ally using a spell or item within 3 subsequent turns (of any unit, friend or foe), that unit is permanently lost and removed from your party. This adds significant weight to tactical decisions.

What makes the Job System special? The Job System allows incredible flexibility. Units earn Job Points (JP) in their current Job to learn abilities. Crucially, once learned, many abilities can be equipped and used even when the unit changes to a different Job. This enables powerful combinations, like a Knight who can also cast White Magic.

Is the game replayable? Absolutely! The deep Job System encourages experimenting with vastly different party compositions and ability combinations. The branching recruitment paths for certain unique characters and the sheer number of side quests also provide strong incentives for multiple playthroughs to experience everything Ivalice offers.
